If you have a young child on the autism spectrum I recommend reading Beth Kephart's beautiful memoir A Slant of the Sun:

and finally for a great piece of fiction for readers over 10 through adulthood, try Mark Haddon's book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time - a mystery with the sleuth as a child on the autism spectrum:
